Sojourners Alliance operates an on-site shelter facility for homeless men, women, and families, as well as a permanent housing program for literally homeless individuals and families with a diagnosed disability. We also provide short term emergency shelter in area motels and rental assistance to prevent homelessness for those facing an eviction. Our programs offer long-term housing, supplemental food assistance, case management, and referrals to other area agencies in an effort to help our clients become self-sufficient and independent.

How need is reduced in the region
- Federal funds via the state (IHFA) supplemented with private donations fund the Access Point, SA’s Permanent Supportive Housing, Emergency Shelter Program, and Homelessness Prevention/Rapid Rehousing.
- People in need call the Access Point where they are run through a standardized screening mandated by IHFA which determines what they qualify for.
- The Access Point then recommends the appropriate organization. Whether it is to Sojourners, Family Promise, YWCA, Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse, St. Vincent De Paul, or to voucher programs like Section 8 and Intermountain Fair Housing.
- To date this results in less need. Need is not eliminated as resources are insufficient for this in addition to structural social and market issues that persist.
- Many of these programs are designed to get people back into units via the private housing market. A tight rental market means competition for space is high which contributes to high prices and higher standards to qualify.
